Xavi Talks New Album ‘Dosis,’ Barack Obama
For the past two years, Xavi has been on a non-stop roll. The música mexicana singer took the genre by a storm in 2024 with his debut album Next. Since then, he’s trekked across the U.S. on a sold-out tour, and continued to release new music with some of the biggest names in Latin music, including Fuerza Regida, Belinda, and Netón Vega, just to name a few. Now, the 22 year-old star is gearing up for the release of his second LP Dosis, out today.
Dosis has already proven that a sophomore slump won’t be an issue for the Mexican American singer. “La Morrita” with Carin León and “No Capea” with Grupo Frontera already topped Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart. Plus, the album is a showcase of musical power with features from Fuerza, Grupo, and even Colombian singer Manuel Turizo.
“There’s new material for everybody to listen to because sometimes you just need something fresh,” Xavi tells Rolling Stone over Zoom. He’s at a tour stop in Mexico, where he’s been playing the latest leg of his X tour, the star’s biggest live slate to date. At the end of the month, Xavi will take the stage at the Rose Bowl for MexTour Live, the official send-off celebration for the Mexican National Team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It’s an exciting time for the young star as he releases his most ambitious project yet. Below, Xavi details how he embraced new sounds and worked with some of his dream collaborators to make Dosis.
You’re in the middle of your massive seven-date Mexican leg of the X tour. How has it been and what are you looking forward to?
It’s been amazing. They have the best energy over here. I just celebrated my birthday in Guadalajara not too long ago. We threw a little party and it was cool. I’m 22 so it was definitely something exciting on tour that I couldn’t miss.
We kicked things off in Monterrey, then we went to Guadalajara for Cinco Mayo, which was my birthday. Now we’re hitting Puebla and Vera Cruz, so we’re going to be up and down [the country].
It’s a big week with the album release as well. How do you feel now that it’s coming out?
I feel great. It’s been a year of hard work with everything we put into the album. To everybody that’s been supporting us, we’re not going to fail you guys, we’re going to give it our all and we hope you guys like this album.
I’m excited for fans to listen to “Bellaka” and “Miami.” With a lot of songs on the album, you can tell that the sound has evolved, so it’s a new world. It’s a new us.
The album features your first-ever song in English “Find Us Again?” What inspired you to write a song in English, and do you intend to write any more English songs in the future?
Growing up in two different places, Mexico and Phoenix, Arizona, exposed me to different sounds and genres. I didn’t want to pick just one genre or language. I wanted to do a little bit of everything. So I grabbed our authentic sound of corridos and some of R&B that I’d be listening to, some pop and hip-hop, and put them all together.
If people like the song, then we might as well give them another one. It’s definitely another market, another world but honestly, I’d be down.
One of the songs you released ahead of the album “En Privado” got the attention of President Obama, who featured it in his end of year picks in 2025. What was your reaction to that news?
I was on tour and they told me that. I was like, “Damn, Obama? The Obama? Barack Obama? The same Obama that was president?” I couldn’t believe it. It’s definitely a goal I didn’t know I had. It was such an honor, I can’t even process it.
From the reggaeton moment with the Kapo collaboration to the bachata heard on “En Privado,” there’s a lot of different genres on the album. Did you go in with the intention to expand your sound beyond corridos?
I love every single genre and sometimes I don’t know which one to pick, so I’m just like, “you know what? I’m going to just put them all together.” That’s where the fusion comes in. The fusion of music is what’s changing the game right now. We’re trying to push that, too.
Collaborating with different artists also helps show you another point of view depending on what type of sounds people have and the genres they work with. It’s like you absorb the style and then you make it part of your world. Now there’s just so many styles floating around.
One of the most impressive things about this album is that it features so many of the biggest voices in musica mexicana right now, including Fuerza Regida, Grupo Frontera, and Carin León. What was it like to work with them?
It was an incredible process, there’s a true connection behind every song. It was amazing to work with all these artists because I listen to their music a lot too. So for me to work with them, it’s just a dream come true. Little me would’ve just been like, “Damn, one day.” I’m just grateful for the opportunity.
This is actually our first album with this many collaborations. It’s definitely very different from the debut because we had dropped no features, it was just us. It feels a little bit like, “hey finally we get to work on basically creating different styles.”

The album is called Dosis and I’ve seen you sporting that heart-shaped ruby necklace. Can you explain what the connection to the jewelry and album title is?
Dosis basically refers to the fire in our hearts that we feel wherever we are with a person or in that moment or going back in time to feel that fire again. It could be however you want it to resemble, but it’s about feeling alive again.
I have this thing where I get everything ruby red or with rubies because my mom’s name is Ruby and I take her everywhere I go.
What were you trying to communicate about love were on the album?
What runs the world is love and the fire in our hearts and we’re going to keep fighting for that fire just to feel alive again one more time.
What is the biggest lesson you learned while making your second LP?
I feel like with the first record we limited ourselves with one style. But I’ve learned there’s no limit to this. There’s no rules in music. You can do whatever you want, so it’s about what you make it.
What do you hope fans take away from the record?
The message of the album is to never let the fire inside of you ever stop and keep giving it your all. Live every day to its fullest because we don’t all have the same opportunity.
In some of the songs I talk about God because I feel like he’s been a big help for me and my guide in every situation. I try to push this new generation towards God because we don’t know what tomorrow’s going to happen, so just let him guide the way.
