Last year, Denis Villeneuve was announced as the director of the next James Bond movie, alongside Steven Knight as screenwriter. As Amazon MGM Studios gear up for 007 auditions, which they’ve revealed are now taking place, Knight has shared how he’s been researching for his script.

The creator of Peaky Blinders and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is rumoured to be penning a Bond origin story. And now he’s teased that he’s been interviewing members of the SAS and “even more secret outfits” about their everyday lives.

Speaking with Screen Daily, Knight shared: “I am talking to them about what they do every day. It’s all real. The author [Ian Fleming] was living that life. In the war, he was doing those things. He knew people doing that stuff, going out there and killing people.”

Knight now believes he has the opportunity to reinvent 007 under Amazon MGM: “Bond has been bulletproof. People have been able to make mistakes and variations, quite elaborate variations, and the character has survived because the core of it is like a diamond. You can’t touch it. The person you are talking about is folklore.”
