Urgent ‘do not eat’ warning for cakes as Aldi and Tesco issue recalls
Urgent food and product recalls have been announced this week, with shoppers told to stop using the items immediately. The Food Standards Agency has issued notices for 42 cakes and breads following rodent contamination.
Anyone with these products has been advised not to consume them and to take them back to the shop where they were bought. Meanwhile, Aldi and Tesco have also released recall notices concerning salmon and a dessert. The Office for Product Safety and Standards published a recall notice from Ann Summers, which is alerting shoppers to stop using of one of its intimate products. Here are the recalls from this week…
Saffron Pastries
A selection of cakes and biscuits from Saffron Pastries have been urgently recalled following rodent contamination. Some of the products have best-before dates extending to 2027.
The FSA said: “If you have bought the products, do not eat them. Instead, return them to where you bought them from for a full refund. For more information email info@saffronpastries.com or call 01274 726101.”
Aldi’s salmon
This week, salmon was withdrawn from sale at Aldi due to an incorrect use-by date. The FishMonger Hot Smoked 2 Salmon Fillets – Honey Roasted were recalled from shoppers.
It comes in a 180g packet with a use-by date of 25/06/2026. The correct use-by date for the salmon should actually be April 25, 2026. Aldi said: “Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given. We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”
First National Bakery products
A range of bread products has been withdrawn from sale due to a rodent contamination risk at the manufacturing bakery site. All affected products carry a best-before date before the end of April.
Anyone who has any of these products has been strongly advised not to consume them and to return the items to their point of purchase for a full refund.
Tesco dessert
Tesco has pulled its Finest Summer Edition Chocolate Affogato Dessert from shelves due to potential plastic contamination. The affected 538g dessert carries best-before dates up to and including April 2027.
The product is deemed unsafe for consumption, and customers have been instructed to return the item to any Tesco store for a refund.
Adult toy
Ann Summers has recalled an intimate product this week, as it poses a risk of injury to users. The Ann Summers Remote Rotating Dildo can cause harm as components may detach during use.
The item is described as a dildo, approximately 6.5 inches in length, featuring a rotating and vibrating mechanism. It was sold both online and in-store between September 2025 and March 2026, carrying a SKU number of 2008629 and barcode 5050890824779.
The OPSS said: “Owners are advised to stop using the product and return it – either in store or via free postal return – for a full refund.”
