Dolly Parton Biopic, Docuseries, and More Are in Development

Dolly Parton‘s team is assuring fans of the beloved country icon that her legacy will continue throughout the countless projects that were already in motion before her death.

“Dolly worked up until the day she died. She loved seeing her dreams come to life, and loved knowing her work brought people joy. Ever the planner, Dolly worked with the team that she handpicked, for the past several years to build a project roadmap that will guide us for decades to come,” her longtime manager Danny Nozell said in a statement. “As the leader of the team responsible for overseeing her legacy, we will ensure the many dreams she had yet to fulfill are brought to life. Many projects were in various stages of development, and we want to be transparent with her fans about this fact.”

Nozell said that Parton placed her “personal stamp” on any unreleased music, products, books, experiences, and campaigns launched through official Dolly Parton channels. A press release teased that details on her projects — including a Dolly avatar show, musical documentary, biopic, docuseries, scripted series, and a Billy The Kid animated series, plus more – will be revealed soon.

Alongside the announcment, her team shared a video of Parton filmed during the last two years before her death. The video features Parton greeting folks and brighter than ever as she films content for her various ventures including Dolly Parton’s SongTeller Hotel (set to open Sept. 14), Dolly’s Life Of Many Colors Museum (Sept. 29), Dolly’s Dog Treats (early 2027), Dolly: A True Original Musical On Broadway (Jan. 19, 2027), Dolly’s Cup Of Ambition Coffee (online Sept. 29, 2026; retail Spring 2027), Dolly Dolls (Sept. 15), and Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop (opened June).

Parton, who died on Aug. 25 at the age of 80, last appeared in public at 3686 Pulaski Highway, just off I-65, at a Tennessee truck stop that was being christened in her honor. “I could not be prouder,” Parton said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, before explaining one of the reasons she wanted to lend her name to the venture. “I’ve spent my whole life traveling down the road.”

It was a fitting final appearance and Parton entertained fans gathered with her signature puns, wit, and warmth. “Good food, real rest, a little music, and people who are genuinely glad you stopped in,” Parton told the crowd. “That’s what the road has always deserved, and that is what you will find here. Welcome home.”
