‘One of the best movies ever’ all Netflix fans are watching | Films | Entertainment
Hailed as ‘one of the best cop thrillers’, a recently added movie showcasing an ‘outstanding’ Keanu Reeves is suddenly taking Netflix by storm. Originally released in cinemas back in 2008, Street Kings is now available for streaming on the platform. According to the film’s synopsis, the plot centres on Tom Ludlow, a seasoned LAPD officer still grieving the loss of his wife, while grappling with a world that no longer seems to make sense to him.
However, when evidence emerges linking him to the death of a colleague, Ludlow starts to doubt the loyalty of those closest to him. The title’s supporting cast is impressive and features the likes of Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, Chris Evans, Hugh Laurie, Terry Crews, Naomie Harris and US comic Cedric the Entertainer.
Rapper The Game also makes an appearance, reports the Mirror. The film achieved a modest box office return, grossing just over $66 million against a $20 million budget. However, it failed to win over critics at the time.
Despite this, film enthusiasts cannot seem to get enough of it since its arrival on Netflix. At the time of writing, it currently sits at number three in the top 10 films in the UK chart, trailing only true crime documentary Maternal Instincts and Wonka.
Fans have even taken to social media to voice their opinions on the film, with many insisting the reviews got it completely wrong and that it is absolutely worth anyone’s time. One viewer went as far as to declare it “possibly one of the best cop thrillers in years”, drawing comparisons to The Departed and Training Day.
Another enthusiastic viewer exclaimed: “From the moment it started it was non-stop! Roles were played perfectly on all levels, Every one of them was on point and right there. You felt the anger, the rage, the emotion. This movie is up there with the best of the best. Dare I say one of the best movies ever!”.
Keanu Reeves’ portrayal received particular praise, with one admirer commenting: “This is by far the best Keanu Reeves film I have ever seen. It was super exciting, visceral, and realistic. The ending is a big surprise and the best part of the film, though I found it all entertaining after the beginning.”
A further viewer concurred: “Original and very well done. One of Keanu Reeves best roles. This is top notch action and acting with directing from one of the best in the business. Loved the whole thing from beginning to end very suspenseful.”
While another elaborated: “Gritty, compelling and gutsy. This is a real find – one of those sneaky films that slipped through the box office and past the critics, despite being a great movie. I’m sure it will find it’s audience though, because it’s class all the way. Keanu puts in one of his best performances and seems to be only improving with age.”
Street Kings is streaming on Netflix.
