Asda set to introduce major change on Saturday for single shoppers
Supermarket chain Asda is implementing a “special” change in its stores to create the ideal meet-cute for customers on Saturday, 14. While you probably don’t anticipate finding the love of your life during your weekly grocery shopping, Asda aims to change that.
This Valentine’s Day, the supermarket retailer will roll out “special” red shopping baskets, encouraging singles to use them if they’re “looking for love”. By opting for these Valentine’s baskets instead of the traditional Asda green ones, shoppers will indicate to others that they’re “open to talk”. Of course, participation in this initiative is completely optional, and the classic green baskets and trolleys will still be available for those who prefer not to take part.
The change follows a survey of 2,000 adults in the UK, revealing that 64% are attracted to someone they meet at their local supermarket, while 87% prefer to meet people in person rather than through a dating app.
Shoppers were also asked about their ideal meeting spots for a potential partner, with 76% indicating that the supermarket would be a “great place” for such encounters.
Asda mentioned that the baskets are a “simple way” to facilitate these real-life connections.
However, if you’re on the hunt for love, you might need to travel to find a participating store, as the red baskets will only be available in three locations.
Asda stores where red baskets are:
- Leicester Fosse Park
- Bromborough in Liverpool
- Toryglen in Glasgow
A spokesperson for the retailer said: “We know people are craving real-life connections, but we also know our customers are busy and don’t always have the time to put themselves out there.
“That’s why we’re turning the weekly shop into the ultimate meet-cute. These red baskets are a fun, light-hearted way to help people connect while they’re already doing their everyday shop – a simple, playful nudge to start a chat and maybe even spark a little romance.”
