28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’s ending saw Cillian Murphy reprise his role as Jim from 28 Days Later.

Living in a cottage by the sea, the 2002 original film’s lead has a daughter who he’s helping with her history revision.

This new character is played by a mixed-race actress, indicating her mother is Naomie Harris’ Selena from 28 Days Later.

Yet there’s no sign of her in this final scene, when the pair hear Spike in trouble and prepare to help him.

So is Selena dead or alive off-screen? Danny Boyle gave a clue in an interview around the release of the first 28 Years Later film.

Speaking with Empire, Boyle was asked if Harris will reprise her 28 Days Later character in the third film alongside Murphy’s Jim. Boyle replied: “At the moment it’s just Cillian.” Given that 28 Years Later hadn’t been green-lit at this point, perhaps this was left open in The Bone Temple. Screenwriter Alex Garland is working on the script, which could presumably include Selena, depending on whether Harris is available for filming.
