Clint Eastwood’s ‘best film’ is leaving Amazon Prime in 24 hours | Films | Entertainment
One Clint Eastwood film is set to leaving Amazon Prime in just 24 hours – and some fans praise it as his “best film”. The American actor, filmmaker, and musician has starred in iconic films like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Gran Torino. But the film leaving Prime soon is actually one he co-produced and directed.
Mystic River is a mystery crime drama starring Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon. The screenplay is based on the 2001 novel by Dennis Lehane and is the first film in which Eastwood was credited as composer of the score.
Released in 2003 but set in 1975, the film follows three childhood friends whose lives are changed forever by a tragedy in 1970s Boston. Twenty-five years later, their paths cross again when one man’s daughter is brutally murdered.
The film scored a whopping 89% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.9 stars out of 10 on IMDb. It was also a major commercial success, grossing $156.8 million (approximately £118.1 million) worldwide against a production budget of just $25 million (£18.84 million).
Some fans have labelled Mystic River as Clint Eastwood’s “best film” with one fan writing on Rotten Tomatoes, “Mystic River is a powerhouse of a film with great performances all throughout. Clint Eastwood has always been a very talented Actor and Director but I feel this is his best film behind the camera.”
Another fan took to the platform to praise the film, adding, “It is a film of magisterial, slow-burning power, one of the finest examples of recent American cinematic storytelling and certainly Eastwood’s most mature film.”
The film won 57 awards in total, including Oscars for both Sean Penn, who won Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Tim Robbins, who won Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
Another Rotten Tomatoes reviewer praised the film for its faithfulness to the book, writing, “Amazing acting! The Dennis Lehane novel was one of my favorites before the movie was filmed. This film does the book much justice.”
Monday 22 June will be the last day for Prime fans to watch the film with it leaving the platform at midnight on Tuesday 23 June. While the film is set to leave Prime imminently, Mystic River is also available to rent on Apple TV.
