Wiping £1 cupboard staple onto glasses stops them fogging up
Cleaning expert Ann Russell has shared how using a common household products on your glasses can help prevent them from fogging up.
If you wear glasses, you’ll most likely be well-aware of the struggle that comes with drastic heat changes. This can be especially annoying if you’ve just started wearing glasses.
A viewer named Hannah contacted ‘TikTok auntie’ Ann Russell to say they’d recently started wearing glasses on a regular basis and asked if there was a way to avoid glasses fogging up from sudden heat changes, such as when cooking or walking inside from the cold.
“Yes, but you have to do what I say not what I do, because I don’t do it, I forget,” Ann said.
She went on to explain that using a common household product to polish your glasses will prevent them from fogging up.
“The answer is, and it works with mirrors as well, you get a tiny, just a miry smidge of washing up liquid on the outside and the inside, and you polish it all over and then off with either a very clean microfibre cloth or a piece of tissue paper. And that does help stop it,” she said.
Singing the praises of the £1 cupboard staple, she continued: “It works with soap as well. You can draw an X in soap on the inside and the outside and polish that off and that seems to stop it. I don’t know why, but it does actually work.
“It works on mirrors as well. I wouldn’t advice doing it on glasses you’re driving with – just in case. And I don’t, I forget.”
Despite Ann’s useful tip, some people took to the comments to add extra tips to prevent people from scratching their glasses.
One person added to the comments: “Don’t do this if you have an anti reflection coating on your lenses though. It will ruin the coating!”
“Came here to say this! You can buy anti fog spray now since Covid and wearing masks!” a second person added.
Another user also said to avoid using tissue paper, as that could also scratch the glasses. They said: “I don’t recommend using tissues to clean or buff your lenses, it can scratch them. if you don’t have access to a lense cloth you are better off using your shirt or something.”
