Wife of Weezer Bassist Shot by Cops, Booked for Attempted Murder
The incident occurred Tuesday after California Highway Patrol and LAPD officers responded to a hit-and-run
Author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, Jillian Lauren, who is identified as Jillian Shriner in a police news release, was shot by police on Tuesday and booked for attempted murder.
According to the news release from the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred Tuesday afternoon after California Highway Patrol requested backup in locating three misdemeanor hit-and-run suspects who fled into a residential neighborhood near Eagle Rock in Los Angeles. LAPD officers approached a home where one of the suspects was seen running and Shriner appeared in the backyard of the residence, armed with a handgun. After officers ordered Shriner to drop the firearm, she refused numerous times, and pointed the handgun toward the officers, per the news release, and a shootout took place during which Shriner was struck by gunfire and retreated back into her residence.
She was later taken into custody and brought to a local hospital, where she was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Shriner was not involved in the hit-and-run and was booked for attempted murder. A nine millimeter handgun was recovered from her residence.
Shriner’s manager did not immediately return Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.
Shriner released her first memoir Some Girls: My Life in a Harem in 2010 and her second, Everything You Ever Wanted, in May 2015. Both books, released under the name Jillian Lauren, are New York Times bestsellers.
The band are scheduled to perform at Coachella this weekend. It’s unclear if the incident will affect their appearance. A rep for Weezer did not immediately return Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.
Weezer recently celebrated their 30th anniversary of the Blue Album with a tour, and are set for a number of other festivals, including Kilby Block Party next month, Soundside in September, and When We Were Young in October. Over the summer, they’re scheduled for a slew of festival dates in Europe, including U.K.’s Glastonbury festival.
