Top 10 ‘memorable’ dog names trending across the UK in 2026
These names have stood the test of time according to dog food company Butternut Box. They have compiled a list of the 10 most popular dog names, and also a list of the least commonly chosen. If you’re getting a dog, then one of these names could be the perfect choice for your new pup.
Coming in first place for the most popular dog name is Bella. This short, feminine name is a popular choice for pooches across the UK. Easy to spell, and easy for dogs to learn, it’s unsurprisingly a winner.
In second place is Luna – another short classic name for girl dogs. Rounding out the top five are the names Teddy, Milo, and Lola. These names are contemporary but timeless, and all sound adorable.
The final five names are Poppy, Coco, Daisy, Buddy, and Alfie. These names all continue the trend of short, memorable names that are easy to call and well-loved by owners.
Anna Robertson, Vet Nurse at Butternut Box, said: “Names like Bella, Luna, Teddy, Milo, and Lola top our lists, reflecting a shift towards names with warmth, personality, and familiarity – the kind of names you might give a family member or close friend. This trend shows that owners want their pets’ names to feel approachable, memorable, and full of character.”
If you want a less common name for your dog, then Butterbox has also compiled a list of the rarest dog names. These names are a little more playful and unique – perfect for people looking for something a little more quirky.
