Milly Alcock, star of House of the Dragon, has confessed that she feared her career might stagnate after her breakout role as the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the popular HBO fantasy series.

The 25 year old Australian actress is set to return to the big screen as Supergirl in the DC hero’s new standalone film, following her cameo in last year’s Superman starring David Corenswet.

Despite initially contemplating moving away from major franchise roles after portraying Rhaenyra, she was compelled to rethink when she found it difficult to secure more acting roles following Netflix‘s 2025 series Sirens.

She confessed to Vanity Fair: “I was so s***-scared that my life was over at 22. And, of course, it wasn’t.”

Fortunately, Alcock was given the opportunity to join James Gunn’s new comic book universe, though she was somewhat hesitant to portray such a legendary character.

“I kind of bullied myself into it,” she disclosed, and proceeded to recount “crazy dreams” of herself “at the foot of a tsunami” as she transitioned from successful TV to superhero blockbusters.

“Of course I’m scared,” Alcock added. “Of course I want people to like me and the movie. But ultimately, it’s out of my control.”

The actress went on to explain that her role in House of the Dragon served as good preparation for the superhero part as she soon experienced the barrage of comments that women in the industry often receive.

“We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies,” Alcock states. “I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself.”

The rising talent is taking on the role of Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin and one of the few survivors of planet Krypton.

Helmed by Craig Gillespie (Cruella), the film kicks off with Supergirl marking her 23rd birthday by whisking her dog Krypto off for a galactic adventure.

Upon encountering a young lass named Ruthye Marye Knoll (portrayed by Eve Ridley), Kara sets off on a mission to track down Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts), the ruthless pirate responsible for Ruthye’s father’s death.

The forthcoming blockbuster will also feature David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Supergirl’s parents, alongside Jason Momoa in the role of the legendary alien mercenary Lobo. The film is set to grace cinemas this June.

Alcock is also lined up to star in the upcoming black comedy flick Thumb. She’ll portray a reclusive woman whose “world turns upside down when a mysterious severed thumb arrives in her mailbox.

“Her determined quest to find its owner sets her on an unexpected path of self-discovery and transformation.”

The stellar cast also includes Awkwafina, Kate McKinnon, Sofía Vergara, Stavros Halkias, Hannibal Buress, and Michael Zegen.

House of the Dragon season 3 premieres June 2026 on HBO Max.
