A cookbook author has revealed an easy peeling method that saves so much time in the kitchen. Daen Lia is a popular content creator, founder of Daen’s Kitchen, and a bestselling author. She boasts over eight million followers across her social media platforms, with over 1.9 million subscribers on YouTube alone.

In one of her viral videos, shared as @Daenskitchen, the foodie shared a peeling tip for anyone who loves cooking with garlic. Daen told followers: “When you have a whole lot of garlic, and you need to peel it to make my garlic comfy or to keep vampires at bay, this is how you do it.”

She instructed: “Grab your garlic and begin by separating the cloves from the bulb. Find any small gap at the top of the bulb where the stem used to sit, wiggle your finger under it, and begin to break away those cloves.

“Place them into a bowl. Once you have all your garlic cloves, pour over boiling hot water and leave that to sit for five minutes. The hot water will soften the skin and make it really easy to slide off.”

Daen added: “Don’t worry, this doesn’t change the taste or texture of the garlic, but if you are concerned you can replace the boiling hot water with cold water and just leave it to sit for one to two hours. It will have the same effect.

“Since the garlic skin is so soft, I can use my fingers to slide it right off. I’m using a sharp knife to cut the woody parts off as I don’t find these overly pleasant to eat, and make sure you keep all those garlic skins to make my garlic powder or to flavour a homemade stock.”

Daen’s video went viral, garnering over 9k likes and many comments from viewers who loved the tip. Replying to the demonstration, a fan of the trick said: “This is a helpful tip! Thank you.”

A similar reply said: “Thank you very much.” Someone else wrote: “Thanks for the tip! I usually just shake the hell out of it.”

Another commenter shared: “I’ve been dipping my garlic in cold water without knowing. Garlic sticks to knives without water, so I just take some water in a bowl, put the garlic in, and start to peel.

“Next time I’ll leave it a little longer. Thanks.” More praise read: “This has just saved so much time.” For anyone looking for Daen’s recipes, they can be found on her website, Daen’s Kitchen.
