A popular sandwich and deli ingredient has been issued a  recall notice by the brand and Food Standards Agency over a label misprint. Plant-based brand THIS™ announced on Wednesday, January 28, that its THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Piece may pose a “possible health risk”.

The product contains soya and wheat (gluten), which are not declared on the label in a “mislabelling issue”. The FSA said in its risk statement: “This product contains undeclared soya and wheat (gluten) making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten or with coeliac disease.”

The pack sizes and the use-by dates affected is the 120g pack with the use-by dates of January 29, January 30, January 31, February 2, February 3, February 4, February 5, February 6, February 12, and February 13. The use-by date can be found on the front of the product in the grey “Use by” box.

The brand urged shoppers who have bought the product, “please do not eat it”, especially those with allergies to soya and gluten. Customers have been advised to check if they have bought the affected use-by dates, and return the affected product to the store purchased from for a full refund.

THIS™ explained that the move is a “precautionary recall” on all of its THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Pieces due to a “mislabelling issue”. The brand explained: “During production, a batch THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Pieces was incorrectly packed with base labels intended for our THIS™ Isn’t Cocktail Sausages. THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Piece contain WHEAT (GLUTEN) and SOYA which are not present in the cocktail sausages and therefore, not declared on the label.

“Please check the website for the correct ingredient list for THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Piece. The safety of our customers is always our top priority.”
