Daffodils will last longer and save you money with 1 change

Spring is here, which means our local supermarkets are brimming with bunches of sunny yellow daffodils – and they are perfect for brightening up your home on a budget.

The best part is that the flowers, which are associated with Easter and renowned for it’s unique shape and mood-lifting hue, are typically cheap.

You will find this quintessentially British bloom available for £1 – perfect for those who do not want to fork out on an expensive bunch of flowers that won’t last.

Daffodils generally last 5 to 10 days in a vase, with 7 days being average, provided they are cared for properly, according to Johnson’s Seeds. You can slow down the aging by not displaying them in direct sunlight, but rather store them in a cooler place, and also changing out the water in the vase regularly.

However, one savvy shopper has now shared her go-to tips foir making these daffodils last even longer, and thereby saving you money in the long run.

Taking to TikTok, a crafty woman named Mrs Clare Hoops, who often shares videos of her upcycling items, and also using daffodils to create unique decorations and displays using daffodils.

In the video, she’s seen filming herself inside a Tesco store, as she went on to hold up a bunch of daffodils, which the supermarket chain was selling for £1. She then went on to shake her finger as to say no, before sharing her clever money-saving tips.

Instead, she went on to show an alternative. She lifted up a pot of daffodils instead, which had a price tag of £1.50. So while it’s slightly more expensive than the bouquet, Clare went on to argue it’s better value for money, explaining they will last you ‘triple as long’ as they bunch that goes into a vase.

“Buy the pots of daffodils not the bunches and save a few £££,” she said in the caption of the post.

The video then cut to Clare at home, having moved the paper pot of daffodils into a ceramic pot, ready to be displayed in her house.

And Clare wasn’t the only one who thought this, as the comment section soon filled with people sharing their own experiences of buying a pot of daffodils rather than the bunches.

One user shared: “Got my pots on my window sill that i bought last year.” Another person also said: “Totally agree I bought in pot and planted out in garden and come up every year.”

“I just got one!! so excited to plant them in my garden after too,” someone else shared.

Another person commented: “It’s a great saving and you have the bulbs to plant in your garden for next year.”
