An ‘original’ sci-fi film penned by the writers of the ‘best horror movie ever’ is set to air on television tonight.
The film, 65, first hit the big screen in 2023 and offers movie enthusiasts the perfect way to kick off their extended bank holiday weekend.
According to its synopsis, the story centres on a solitary pilot named Mills, who following a catastrophic crash, finds himself stranded on an uncharted planet.
He swiftly discovers he has actually landed on Earth… 65 million years ago. With just a single opportunity for rescue, Mills and the sole other survivor, Koa, must navigate treacherous terrain teeming with deadly prehistoric creatures in an extraordinary battle for survival.
Those wishing to catch the film can do so tonight (April 2) from 9pm on Film4.
Viewers will need to ensure they tune in to avoid missing it, as at the time of writing the title is not currently available on any streaming platform.
Alternatively, audiences can catch it on Film4+1, where the film will commence an hour later at 10pm , reports the Mirror.
Adam Driver, widely recognised for portraying Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, heads the cast as Mills, alongside Ariana Greenblatt as Koa.
Former Disney actress Greenblatt has since gone on to appear in Barbie, Borderlands and Now You See Me Now You Don’t. The film was written and directed by writing partners Scott Beck and Bryan Woods.
The duo are perhaps best known for being the creative minds behind the original horror film A Quiet Place before relinquishing creative control of the franchise to John Krasinski. They also collaborated on Heretic, with fans hailing both of their chilling offerings as ‘one of the best horror movies ever’

Meanwhile, 65 failed to replicate the commercial triumph of their earlier projects. It grossed just $60 million against a $45 million budget at the worldwide box office. And despite its rather unfavourable 35% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, numerous fans insist it is well worth a watch.
One critic, revisiting the film, did offer a revised verdict on why it merits viewing years after its initial release.
The film delivers a tense sci-fi survival story where action drives a narrative of isolation and connection. Fans of creature features and suspense will appreciate its concise format, focused on impact and pacing, echoing the tradition of dinosaur movies that have long held a unique place in the world of blockbuster cinema.
Many fans go so far as to completely dismiss the negative critical reviews. Its brief 93 minute runtime is also celebrated as a welcome alternative to sitting through a lengthy, drawn-out release.
One enthusiast went so far as to declare it the “best dinosaur movie ever made”, with many drawing comparisons to how it surpasses the Jurassic World films in terms of action. Another viewer added: “This film deserves 10 STARS!!! Instant Classic!!!”
A further viewer proclaimed: “This movie checked off all the boxes. Space travel, dinosaurs, suspense, emotional connection, and Adam Driver! It doesn’t waste any time grabbing your attention, and the compelling story line is a great ride all the way through.”
Nevertheless, some viewers remain unconvinced, though their criticism is largely directed at the ending. Others contend that 65 was denied a fair opportunity at the box office, having been released alongside major franchise sequels such as John Wick 4, Shazam 2, Scream VI and Creed III.
One devotee offered the highest possible praise when they wrote: “Think Jurassic Park but much better and believe me when I say a lot better. This is that rare science fiction action movie that people have tried to make but didn’t get it right. Here, they finally not only got it right but they excelled!! Plus, real life marine Adam Driver is top notch in a really exciting movie.”
65 airs tonight at 9pm on Film4.
