She paired the look with a dramatic Sean Barrett hat in a matching navy tone. Around her neck, the Princess layered a vintage-style Susan Caplan pearl necklaces, another subtle nod to the late monarch’s famously elegant jewellery choices.

Yet the most meaningful element of the outfit was her earrings. Her Royal Highness chose to wear the Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings, a historic pair once worn by Queen Elizabeth II herself.

The elegant design features a large pearl suspended beneath a diamond stud, set with four smaller diamonds and three baguette-cut stones.

The earrings were originally gifted to the young Princess Elizabeth as a wedding present in 1947, making them one of the most sentimental pieces within the royal jewellery collection.

According to reports, the pair are now believed to be worth around £20,000, further highlighting the significance of Catherine’s choice.

The Princess has worn the earrings on several poignant occasions in recent years, including Remembrance Sunday and the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II back in 2022, making their appearance on Commonwealth Day particularly symbolic.

For the late monarch, the Commonwealth was not simply ceremonial – it was one of the defining priorities of her reign.

During her historic 70-year rule, Queen Elizabeth II undertook more than 200 visits to Commonwealth countries, travelling across the globe to strengthen ties between member states. In fact, around one third of all her overseas tourswere made to Commonwealth nations.

Over the decades she visited almost every Commonwealth country, often returning multiple times throughout her reign.

Her lifelong dedication helped shape the modern Commonwealth into the global network it is today – which is why the annual service at Westminster Abbey held such personal significance for her.

And in choosing to wear the Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings once again, she delivered a thoughtful tribute to Queen Elizabeth II – honouring not only the late monarch’s style but also the enduring legacy she built through the Commonwealth.
