One of the greatest World War 2 films of all time is on BBC Two tonigh | Films | Entertainment

Back in 2007, Joe Wright’s film adaptation of Ian McEwan’s novel hit the big screen, starring James McAvoy, Keira Knightley and Saoirse Ronan. The romantic war drama starts in the 1930s and follows the consequences of a crime across 60 years. The film, which includes some epic World War 2 sequences, was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Supporting Actress for Ronan. Most notable is the famous single-tracking shot on the beaches of Dunkirk, as the soldiers await evacuation.

A decade before Sir Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, the depiction of chaos after the Battle of France is considered one of the most iconic scenes of modern cinema.
