Netflix fans ‘locked in’ as trailer drops for gripping thriller | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
Netflix’s compelling new film The Last House has just released its debut trailer and viewers are already captivated. Featuring Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, this unmissable thriller centres on a family of four who find themselves suddenly and inexplicably trapped inside their home with no means of escape.
As torrential rain begins to fall ceaselessly outside, they grow increasingly convinced that a supernatural force is confining them, their neighbours, and possibly the entire planet. Days and weeks stretch into months and years as the family gradually adjusts to their bizarre new existence. But what sinister presence lies beyond their sealed doors and self-healing windows? And will they ever break free to discover what’s truly been unfolding?
Director Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me, Lupin) teases to Netflix‘s Tudum: “Food is dwindling, and this family has to rely on each other and try to understand what comes next. What’s locking them in, and how will they survive?”
And actress Lee says: “Growing up, my favourite things to watch and read were survivalist stories with a twist. So I was immediately drawn to this story.
“I love the questions this movie asks about our world and how we choose to live in it. And I was excited about the possibility of asking these questions in a new and entertaining way.”
Joining Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Lee and Academy Award nominee Moura as parents Ann and Jason are Riley Chung and Noah Alexander Sosnowski portraying their children Ruth and Graham. Emma Ho and Gabriel Barbosa assume the roles as the film progresses and the family spends increasingly more time confined.
Following the trailer’s release this Monday (15th June), it rapidly attracted millions of views from enthusiastic Netflix subscribers who have promptly added the film to the top of their streaming watchlist.
“This looks VERY interesting. It’s got my attention, alright!” one fan replied to the trailer on YouTube. Another user said: “I’ve never been so excited for a new Netflix movie in years.”
Someone else said on X: “This looks insanely tense Greta Lee + Wagner Moura trapped in a house? I’m locked in already.”
“Oh this is gonna be wild, will be checking this out,” a final fan said.
Nevertheless, some viewers have expressed concern that The Last House could feel uncomfortably familiar for those who lived through the Covid-19 lockdowns of 2020-21.
“I was quarantined for 3 years during Covid. This is triggering,” a YouTuber user said. “I’m very curious on how this movie goes.”
And a final viewer added: “Netflix said “what if 2020 but make it a thriller” and honestly we deserve this.”
The Last House premieres 7th August on Netflix.
