M&S fans ‘need’ trainers that are just like designer but £100 cheaper
Marks & Spencer shoppers have encouraged trainer fans to visit stores to snap up a pair bearing a striking resemblance to a sought-after designer. While there is no shortage of branded trainers available, they often come with a hefty price tag.
For those keen to embrace the trend without breaking the bank, Marks & Spencer is stocking a trainer resembling the Onitsuka Tiger style. The Leather Stripe Trainers from Marks & Spencer are available in yellow and cream. The design draws comparisons to the Japanese brand’s Mexico 66 trainers, which have been trending across social media.
The Marks & Spencer option, however, is priced at just £50, compared to £150 for the Onitsuka Tiger equivalent.
Marks & Spencer describes the shoe: “These retro-inspired leather trainers bring a sporty edge to your casual footwear collection with new fashion appeal.
“The regular fit with lace-up fastening ensures a secure feel, while the soft, chunky sole provides comfort and support for all-day wear. Breathable mesh detailing complements the practical design, with a distinctive contrast stripe adding contemporary flair to the runner style.”
The trainers are available in sizes three to eight. Numerous social media users have been quick to spot the likeness between the Marks & Spencer trainer and the Onitsuka Tiger design.
One shopper shared an in-store video of the shoes, commenting: “Onitsuka tiger dupes in M&S! Only £50 successful trip.” A fellow user responded: “Oh, these are amazing.” While another simply exclaimed: “NEEEEED.”
Shoppers who have purchased Marks and Spencer’s Leather Stripe Trainers have been sharing their verdicts. One said: “Really comfortable striking looking yellow trainers, even gained admiring comments from strangers!”
Another added: “I brought the yellow pair, they are lovely. I’ve walked miles in them, so comfy. So pleased with them.”
Someone else commented: “These have to be the most comfortable trainers I have ever bought…wore them to work and got lots of compliments….and at such a great price, I’m sure they’ll sell out fast.”
However, a number of buyers flagged issues with the sizing and the thinness of the sole. One said: “Lovely trainers but unfortunately the size six were too small and the 6.5 were too big so had to return.”
Another added: “Nice trainers but I have to buy a shock absorbing insole to make them more comfortable. The sole is extremely thin. No great quality.”
Someone else commented: “Very ‘thin’. No padding around ankle and back which makes it feel as if blisters could ensue. Also very little padding in soles. Pity as they did look quite nice.”
Marks and Spencer is not the only retailer stocking trainers in a similar vein to Onitsuka Tiger. Clarks’ Lorenza Lo are available in yellow, brown and snake print.
The yellow pair are currently reduced to £38 from £55. Meanwhile, TU at Sainsbury’s has Yellow Mesh Detail Low Profile Trainers on offer at £15.30, down from £18.
