‘Masterpiece’ horror movie on Amazon Prime that fans say is ‘too disturbing to rewatch’ | Films | Entertainment
With Halloween just around the corner, there is no better time of year than October to watch a good horror film.
If you’re looking for one to watch, you could do far worse than Antichrist. The 2009 horror has gained a huge reputation as one of the scariest there is. Collider calls the film “too disturbing to rewatch”. So are you brave enough to give it a go?
The film follows the story of a grieving couple who retreat to their cabin in the woods in the hopes that their broken hearts and marriage will be repaired. However, nature takes its course, and things keep going from bad to worse.
One person on Rotten Tomatoes said: “There are scenes so unspeakably shocking in Antichrist that I can’t even begin to describe them.
“This might be the most violent movie I’ve ever seen. Some will call it a masterpiece. Others will call it trash.
“As shocked as I was, Lars Von Trier’s horror film stayed with me for a long time. The cinematography is GORGEOUS and the performances, especially from Charlotte Gainsbourg, are raw and powerful.”
The film was directed by Lars von Trier who has spent his whole career unafraid of controversy.
Another person on Rotten Tomatoes said: “It is frightening because it takes an unflinching look at the power and complexity of our emotional lives, a power so great that it might in fact destroy us.”
Filming took place primarily in Germany during the late summer of 2008. After its premiere at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, where Gainsbourg won Best Actress, Antichrist immediately received polarizing feedback.
Critics generally praised its artistic execution, but remained strongly divided regarding its substantive merit, reports say.
Even if you’re looking for a terrifying watch, you might want to think twice before watching this film.
