LOTR fans say same thing as Jamie Dornan cast in The Hunt for Gollum | Films | Entertainment

Countless film enthusiasts were already eagerly anticipating the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Now, with the official cast announcement, excitement has reached fever pitch.

The film, which is scheduled for theatrical release on December 17, 2027, is said to bridge the gap between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. It reportedly focuses on the parallel efforts of several key factions to locate the creature Gollum, whose knowledge of the One Ring makes him the most dangerous pawn in Middle-earth.

While numerous details are still coming to light about the new Lord of the Rings film, several pivotal cast roles have been confirmed or formally announced.

In addition to taking the director’s chair, Andy Serkis will once again play the role of the titular character, Gollum.

Ian McKellen is confirmed to return as the wizard Gandalf, while Elijah Wood will reprise his much-loved role as Frodo Baggins.

Lee Pace is another familiar face returning as the Elvenking of Mirkwood. However, the announcement that has truly sent LOTR fans into a frenzy is that Jamie Dornan will portray Strider, the character later revealed to be Aragorn (previously played by Viggo Mortensen) in the original novel.

Following the cast reveal earlier this week, Lord of the Rings devotees took to Reddit in their droves, heaping praise on Dornan, 43, as an outstanding acting choice.

Dornan, originally from Holywood in Northern Ireland, has built an impressively varied portfolio throughout his career, spanning intense psychological thrillers and period dramas through to light-hearted comedies.

While predominantly recognised for the Fifty Shades franchise, his performances in television dramas such as The Fall and films including Belfast have garnered him considerable critical praise and notable award nominations.

One fan gushed following the announcement: “Genuinely, the man is excellent. Go watch The Tourist for an idea of his range. He’s way more than 50 Shades and I’m a dude who doesn’t like 50 Shades type stuff haha. I feel awesome about these castings.”

Another concurred: “He was fantastic in The Tourist, hope it gets a third season.”

A third chimed in: “He was impressive in The Fall also, that’s where I first became aware of him,” as a fellow fan echoed: “He was also hauntingly good in The Fall. If he can channel that same intensity and quiet brooding into a younger, more ‘hunted’ Strider, he might actually pull this off.”

Heaping on further admiration, another LOTR enthusiast wrote: “I’m alright with this, hope he pulls it off,” while someone else responded: “He will, he has so much depth as an actor. He was great in Robin Hood, The Fall, The Tourist, Fifty Shades trilogy, and The Siege of Jadotville, and he’s not hard to look at either, girls.”

One further fan added: “That’s actually not a bad choice at all. It has renewed my faith.”

The film was initially scheduled for release this year, but the project has been pushed back to allow for a thorough six-to-seven-month preparation period ahead of filming commencing in New Zealand in May this year.
