Jhené Aiko Taps Kendrick Lamar for ‘So Good’
The singer released her new LP, Westside Whimsy, today
Jhené Aiko dropped her new album, Westside Whimsy, which includes a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar.
The mid-tempo track, titled “So Good” and written by Lamar, sees the pair swapping verses and combining their voices. “I can’t let a messy bitch get in my way/ I’m way too grown plus I’m top rank,” Aiko croons. “Who was popping it til they got spanked/ West side, everything Pipe, pipe, pipe it up/ Ghetto intellectual, swerving through the jet fuel, breaking down the decimals.”
Westside Whimsy also features collaborations with Larry June, Ab-Soul, Tyga, and OHMA. The 20-track album is Aiko’s follow-up to her 2020 effort, Chilombo. Earlier this year, the singer described the LP to Rolling Stone as “a lifestyle.” “It’s not a project,” she said. “It’s a lifestyle. Everything I do is that — you’ll see.”
Lamar’s last album, GNX, came out in 2024. Last year, he headlined the Super Bowl XXVII halftime show, for which he won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Direction. He also featured on “Chains & Whips,” a standout track from Clipse’s album Let God Sort Em Out. The rappers won Best Rap Performance at the Grammys for the track. In February, Lamar teamed up with Baby Keem for “Good Flirts.”
