Is Taylor Swift Releasing a New Album? Fans Think So

Taylor Swift always has something up her sleeve. 

In 2026, the superstar somehow kept up her mastermind games while also putting on a top-secret spectacle of a wedding to Travis Kelce. She released country-pop hit “I Knew It, I Knew You” in June, and a month later, there seemed to be a glitch on Spotify that created a whole new fan theory. Now, speculation is ramping up about Swift’s next chapter: Page Six reported that Swift has been “writing new music” according to an unnamed insider. The superstar also sat down for a rare interview as part of the Recording Academy’s Icon Sessions this past week. All of it has inspired tons of fan theories tied to one specific color scheme that’s emerged.

It all started when the Spotify visuals on both the standard version of “I Knew It, I Knew You” and the piano version briefly changed to green and purple, respectively, and the 2014 version of “Blank Space” changed to a red canvas. Since then, Swifties have been buzzing with what this could mean about the superstar’s next career steps. Will Swift honor the 20 year-anniversary of her debut album by releasing the re-recorded version in the fall? Is she hinting at her 13th album? Was it just a coincidental mistake and not an actual Easter Egg? (Maybe but what if I told you none of it was accidental?) Below, we put our own clowning hats on and decode the colors and theories that could signify Swift’s next era.

Purple

Swifties initially believed that the new Spotify canvases signified a special, three-part release for TS13, Swift’s next album. Given that 13 is the superstar’s favorite number, fans think Swift will honor it with an extra special release and drop three versions of the album: a country version, a piano version, and pop version. Each version theory tied back to the genre of songs from the Spotify canvases: country track “I Knew It, I Knew You” changed to green, the song’s piano version to purple, and pop banger “Blank Space” changed to red.

This theory gained more popularity after Swift was spotted out in London last month, debuting a fresh haircut which has historically signified a new era in the Taylor Swift Cinematic Universe. While purple has come to represent Swift’s Speak Now era, during that London outing, Swift wore a lilac purple dress with flowers, which fans are convinced foreshadows the primary color and aesthetics of the singer’s 13th LP. Plus, in the “Bejeweled” music video from her Midnights era, floor 13 of an elevator is, you guessed it, lilac-colored, while floor 3 is a deep purple.

Green

Some fans pointed out that the Spotify colors also line up with Swift’s previously released albums: Green represents her 2006 self-titled LP, purple is often associated with the singer-songwriter’s third album Speak Now, and, of course, the color red correlates to her 2012 album of the same name. Each of these albums were notably released in the October month of their release year with Taylor Swift on Oct. 24, Speak Now on Oct. 25, and Red on Oct. 22. Since Swift seemed to change the canvas for her “Blank Space” hit, one TikTok user pointed out that it could mean that something is coming on the only blank space created out of those release dates: October 23, which falls on a Friday this year.

There’s no consensus amongst Swifties on just what would be released in October, but there’s a clear option: the re-recorded version of Swift’s self-titled debut. When she bought back her masters last year, Swift made it clear that the re-recorded version would be released “when the time is right” and it “will just be a celebration now.” What better time to celebrate the album than in 2026, its 20th anniversary which doubles as Swift’s 20th anniversary in the music industry. Lately, the singer has even been reflecting on the beginning of her career. “If I look back at the song ‘Tim McGraw,’ there are actually sort of hints at everything that was gonna happen in the next 20 years,” Swift told Mason Jr last week. She even wrapped that appearance by performing a touching medley of “I Knew It, I Knew You,” “August,” and “All Too Well.”

 “It’s songs that are connected to each other by the common theme of being about memory and reliving certain detailed memories of your life and the significance of those memories,” Swift said.

Red

In the Taylor Swift Cinematic Universe, red is, of course, associated with the 2012 album Red. But after Swift’s most recent appearance at the Grammy’s Icon Sessions, where she wore a green dress with a red rose pinned on it and donned purple nails, it’s got new meaning. “I re-recorded all of my music that I had recorded on a former label,” Swift said during the interview. This surely set off alarm bells to the tune of Reputation in any Swifties head. Last year, the superstar confessed that she hadn’t “even re-recorded a quarter” of her pivotal sixth album and admitted she wasn’t sure if she would ever finish it. “To be perfectly honest, it’s the one album in those first six that I thought couldn’t be improved upon by redoing it. Not the music, or photos, or videos. So I kept putting it off,” Swift added last year.

But could things have changed? Could it be that the Spotify canvases mean the release of three separate projects? Green for the re-recording of Swift’s self-titled debut, purple for her 13th LP, and red for Reputation? Some fans think so. In the past, Reputation has always been denoted by the color black, but during the Eras Tour, Swift famously only wore a black and red bodysuit during the Reputation set of the show. 

For the record, none of these theories have been confirmed by Swift or her team. Representatives for Swift did not respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment. So for now, we’ll just have to wait and see what tricks Swift has up her sleeve.
