‘Incredible’ vampire series that’s ‘better than the book’ on Netflix | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Vampire fans have taken to social media to sing the praises of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire, with the show receiving an impressive 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with its second season receiving 100%. The series, based on The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, sees the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) recount the tale of his immortality to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian).

As Louis recounts how he was turned into a vampire by French aristocrat Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid), both the past and present unfold in quite dramatic fashion. If this story sounds somewhat familiar, it’s because the Interview with the Vampire was previously adapted into a film starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise back in 1994. The show modernises the story and makes a number of changes to characters and storylines, and fans just simply can’t get enough.

The first season is set between early 20th-century New Orleans and modern-day Dubai, while the second season’s flashbacks take place in post-war Europe. The series blends together horror, historical drama and queer romance, all while pulling at viewers heartstrings.

Fans of the show have left rave reviews on IMDb, where the show currently has an overall rating of 7.5/10.

Leaving a 10/10 rating, one fan wrote: “Being a big fan of the genre, I’ve seen many vampire movies adapted from novels over the years, many with caricatures of vampires which lend a campiness to the movie and to this point had not found one (even the original Interview with the Vampire) that lived up to my expectations.

“In this instance, the series has outdone Anne Rice’s book. It is beautifully written in the current time which lends it a freshness and the entire cast’s acting is outstanding.”

While another wrote: “Exceptional on all categories; casting, mua, cinematography, lighting design, set design, costuming, and holy god the adaptation and acting are a home run. It’s truly gorgeous, deeply loving, and genuinely horrifying. Phenomenal. It’s a star-making series that I genuinely hope sweeps awards ceremonies.”

And a third added: ” I’m a big fan of Anne Rice. I have read her books and seen the film of Interview with the Vampire which I loved.

“I hoped this would be good and it went far beyond that. It’s exceptional. It’s the expensive vintage wine amongst all the lesser ones. The acting is superb from all of the cast.”

Interview with the Vampire currently has two seasons, both available on Netflix and iPlayer, with a third season, titled The Vampire Lestat, set to air later this year.

Alongside these series, there are two more that make up AMC’s ‘Immortal Universe’ – Mayfair Witches, and The Talamasca – both set in the same universe and IWTV, and featuring some crossover elements.
