Huge UK high street store goes into administration

A familiar high street name has taken drastic action following its collapse into administration. Quiz clothing has been a fixture in shopping centres and high streets nationwide for years.

The retailer operates 40 standalone shops throughout the UK, plus concessions within New Look and Matalan outlets. However, Quiz entered administration earlier this month, resulting in 109 job losses. Staff cuts have affected its Glasgow head office and Lanarkshire warehouse.

The company’s website has been shut down, and customers have been informed that any outstanding online orders yet to be dispatched will be cancelled.

Whilst Quiz shops have continued trading, they’ve implemented substantial price reductions in a desperate attempt to clear inventory. Price cuts have been applied across all product categories to attract customers and shift remaining stock.

Footwear has been slashed by at least 50%, with other shoe styles reduced by at least 40%, according to Retail Gazette.

The retailer has applied discounts of at least 30% on its dress collections, handbags, and accessories. Everything else in the range has been marked down by at least 20%, according to reports.

Interpath’s Alistair McAlinden and Geoff Jacobs have been named joint administrators. Mr McAlinden said: “As we continue to explore options for the business, we would encourage shoppers to visit their nearest stores, with further discounts available on all remaining stock.”

Mr Jacobs added: “We’d once again like to pass on our profound thanks to Quiz’ dedicated staff who have shown such professionalism since our appointment.”

Quiz also operates seven concessions throughout the Republic of Ireland, which fall under the administration. The retailer has a workforce of 565 employees and was established in 1993 in Glasgow, Scotland, by entrepreneur Tarak Ramzan.

In a statement posted on the Quiz website, the company said: “Quiz’s online store has now closed. Customers will no longer be able to place orders via the website.

“Customers who have made a purchase via the website prior to February 5, 2026, and who now wish to return the item(s) will not be able to return goods in the usual manner.

“Customers are consequently advised to go to their nearest Quiz store where a replacement or substitute item(s) equal to or less than the value of the original purchase can be provided.

“Customers who have already returned items purchased via the website but who have yet to receive a refund will, regrettably, not receive a refund.

“Customers should contact the provider of the credit or debit card which was used for payment and seek assistance. Online orders that have not yet been dispatched will, regrettably, not be fulfilled.”
