Ana Bárbara and Mōriah Are ‘Supermujeres’ on New Collab: Watch

Well before collaborating on their new song “Supermujeres,” Mōriah and Ana Bárbara‘s first time meeting felt like a turn of fate. Both singers were tasked with singing the national anthems of the U.S. and Mexico, respectively, shortly after President Trump’s reelection.

“I asked if [Ana Bárbara] would sing the last line of the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ with me as a gesture of unity,” the country star tells Rolling Stone. “When we finally sang together, the audience erupted — it was a visceral reminder of what happens when animosity turns into camaraderie.”

That special, culture-unifying moment for the two Latina women felt like the perfect catalyst for their “big sister-little sister” friendship and their new collaboration, whose video launches with Rolling Stone on Monday.

Mōriah, who released an English version of the track called “Superwoman” earlier this year, says she wrote the song about a woman who “dares to dream and protects her sense of wonder in a world that often tries to silence it,” says Mōriah. “Strength isn’t just how a woman loves her family or community — it’s also how she protects her tenderness toward the world.”

Ana Bárbara adds: “It’s having that inner strength to wake up each day with gratitude for being alive, for being on a planet where there’s always hope — faith to be better every single day.”

The black-and-white video follows the stars as they meet in the studio to craft Spanish lyrics — an empowering addition that reflects on the struggles of womanhood and the idea that simply being a woman already makes them heroes. Backed by melancholic country sonics, the clip also captures them performing during a boxing match and highlights the early stages of their growing friendship.

“What motivated me to work with Mōriah was definitely the light in her soul,” says Ana Bárbara. “She has a beautiful heart, such a pure soul, and that caught my attention from the very first day I met her — even before I knew about this song.”

“Supermujeres” — and its two previous solo versions — follows Mōriah’s “Sombrero,” released in both English and Spanish in May. Rolling Stone can also reveal that the singer will release a pair of EPs — Nice Life and Buena Vida — on Oct. 24 and 31, respectively.
