Alison Hammond’s Next denim dress is so ‘flattering’

From Bake Off to This Morning, Alison Hammond has become a familiar face in so many living rooms, and wherever she appears, she brings a sense of fun – especially when it comes to her wardrobe. She often opts for pretty dresses that flatter her figure and stand out from the crowd, often with fun and bold prints, but one that stands out the most is that she doesn’t always go for big designer names like other celebrities, which are out of reach for viewers.

Instead, her wadrobe is much more down-to-earth and affordable, and that includes one of her recent dresses, which was a pretty denim shirt dress from Love & Roses, a brand owned by Next.

And at £66 it’s an affordable price. The dress comes in regular and petite lengths (something I personally love, as I’m only 5’2″ and always on the hunt for midi dresses that actually sit at the right point on my shorter frame). The dress also comes in sizes 6 through 22; however, if you like it, you’ll need to be quick because it’s already selling out in some sizes, and Next hasn’t said whether it will be restocked.

The belted denim dress has a bit of a vintage feel, with its a-line skirt and a belted waist with a round buckle. It’s a classic shirt dress with a structured collar, made from dark-wash blue denim (100% cotton). Contrasting tan topstitching throughout and a button front design all the way down add authentic denim character. There’s also top-pocket detailing on the top half of the dress.

However, some shoppers have said the material may make it a little heavy on hot days. A shopper said: “Bought this dress, which is beautifully made but very heavy. Not something you could wear on a nice spring or summer day. It would be really warm.”

That said, it’s great for the transitional weather in spring, when the days can switch from toasty to a little chilly. The dress has three-quarter-length sleeves, so lovely for days when you don’t need an extra layer, but it can also be layered with a nice knit cardigan.

It’s a versatile option, with a modest midi-length that could just as easily be worn for work with a nice pair of pumps as for the weekend with a pair of heels and a matching handbag.

Alison paired hers with a pair of gold and brown pumps and gold jewellery for a pretty smart casual look.

One shopper said: “I love this dress, great detailing and looking forward to wearing. Timeless item.”

Another added: “This dress fits like a dream and looks beautiful. Have had many flattering comments on it each time I wear it. Really good quality denim.”

However, some shoppers said the dress ran a little small, and they had to size up.
