Anonymous Donor Gives University of Richmond $150M

An anonymous donor gifted $150 million to the University of Richmond last week, which the university says marks the largest donation commitment in its history.

The announcement kicks off the university’s multiyear fundraising campaign, Accelerate Richmond, which aims to raise a total of $600 million to support scholarships, teaching, learning and athletics. One-third of the $150 million gift will be used to match other donors’ gifts to endowed scholarships through the Richmond Affordability Initiative, which offers financial support for students from families across income levels. The university has already raised $465 million for the campaign.

“We are profoundly grateful for this generosity and the confidence of our supporters in the trajectory of the University of Richmond,” President Kevin F. Hallock said in a news release announcing the gift. “This extraordinary gift builds on generations of generosity among the alumni and friends of this amazing university. I could not be more excited about our positive momentum and our future.”
