The public legal dispute between members of Selena Quintanilla‘s family has intensified. Abraham “A.B.” Quintanilla III has officially sued his sister, Suzette Quintanilla-Arriago, over profits related to their famed sister’s estate.

In a lawsuit filed on Sept. 10, and obtained by Rolling Stone, Quintanilla III seeks an unspecified amount in damages and monetary relief exceeding $1 million. The suit alleges that as the manager of Selena’s estate, Quintanilla-Arriago has not provided A.B. “with a complete accounting of the assets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, transactions, distributions, and net profits” and “failed or refused to pay [him] the full amount of net profits and proceeds due to him.”

Quintanilla-Arriago took over managing the estate after her father, Abraham Quintanilla, passed over duties to her in 2016. He died in December 2025.

The lawsuit, which was filed in Nueces County, Texas, comes after A.B. first addressed the legal dispute with his family in social media posts, alleging that, “Suzette and her lawyers” were “notified of a lawsuit related to her fiduciary duties.”

From there, the issue developed into a back and forth with Quintanilla-Arriago and Selena’s mother, Marcella, after the pair issued their own statement denying the existence of a lawsuit. “Suzette has never been served with any lawsuit. She has received no court-filed complaint, summons, petition, or other legal pleading concerning the allegations A.B. is describing,” their post read.

On Sept. 5, A.B.’s lawyer shared a statement via a video on his client’s Instagram page confirming that a lawsuit against Quintanilla-Arriago was going to be filed, seeking to “uncover quite a bit of fiduciary breaches of fiduciary duty by Suzette, where she has either failed to properly account or failed to properly distribute assets of the estate.”

Legal representatives for Quintanilla-Arriago did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone’s request for comment.
