Social media can be a tricky place.

If you fire off the wrong hot take, you could subject yourself to endless notifications for messages that might make you lose some sleep. BZZR, a social media platform dedicated solely to sports content, is hoping to change that.

Jon Alba, an Emmy Award-winning sportscaster who co-hosts “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” with the legendary professional wrestler, told Fox News Digital he believed that there was a space missing for sports fans to connect online without the hate and vitriol. He said it’s what makes BZZR the place to be for those who have cemented themselves as reputable content creators and those looking to get reps in.

“I have always felt like there was a spot in the sports media space that was unoccupied where a virtual sports bar could meet people who wanted to engage in that space specifically,” he said. “When I was 15 years old, back in the early days of podcasting, podcasting didn’t even exist. It was like online sports talk radio. There was a platform called YouCaster and it was essentially a bunch of sports fans, wannabe sports broadcasters, creating content and congregating around each other’s content. And the platform didn’t last very long, but it was such a great idea.

“And now in the age of access for all of these creators to have a space that is dedicated to solely creating instantaneous, engaging sports content and cutting out the noise, I think that’s awesome for the space and it’s a great way for anyone to get an opportunity to get reps and get better at creating content in the sports space. So, I think it’s a great arena for that.”

BZZR has made it a point to block out the noise and stick solely to sports and it’s what drew Alba to the platform. The social media platform has partnered with the Texas Rangers, John Bradshaw Layfield, MVP, Dwayne Swayze and Kayla Becker – to name a few.

“There’s so much trash out there today, whether it’s AI garbage or engagement bait, rage bait, where people just say things for the sake of saying things, and it’s been one of my least favorite evolutions of the sports media space in the last decade where people who want to make noise get rewarded for doing so without any substance to what they’re saying,” he said. “And I think the advantage of a place like BZZR is that you have people on the platform who are there for the right reason, who want to create good, engaging content that furthers conversation that gets them better at creating sports content and creates a space that people actually want to talk about sports in, as silly as it sounds.

“I don’t think we have that many of them right now that do so in a way that has integrity and is genuinely fun to sort through. So that’s why I’ve really gone behind the idea of BZZR and I think it’s cool to see that it has grown in a short period of time.”

Hardy agreed that the concept of having a place solely for sports was a good idea.

“The best thing about social media is it gives everyone a voice. The worst thing about social media is it gives everyone a voice and that very much holds true,” Hardy added.

Hardy and Alba’s podcast drops every Friday morning as they look back at Hardy’s career and swap stories about some of the most important moments in pro wrestling history.
