‘I tried cheap and expensive M&S ribeye steaks – results floored me’

A food fan decided to put Marks and Spencer’s cheapest and most expensive ribeye steaks to the test and the results left her floored.

High street favourite M&S is an essential fixture on the British high street. Despite being founded more than 100 years ago, it still maintains its popularity among modern shoppers thanks to its premium goods spanning departments like fashion, accessories, homeware, food and beyond.

The supermarket’s Food Halls regularly pull in praise from countless customers, with many of its standard products and new launches often generating excitement across social media.

Food content creator Becca Stock – known on TikTok as Becca Eats Everything – picked up M&S’s 30 Day Matured Ribeye Steak, which costs £8.50, to compare it with the pricier M&S Collection Wagyu Ribeye Steak, which costs £19.

Speaking directly to the camera, Becca began: “Let’s try M&S’s cheapest and most expensive ribeye steak.

“I’m gonna start with the £8.50 standard M&S ribeye. This has got a huge chunk of fat running through the middle.

“I did put a little bit of oil on and a little bit of salt and pepper – that’s how I cook my steaks. Usually how most steaks are cooked in restaurants as well.”

Becca then took a bite of the steak and said: “Oh, my goodness, that is a f***ing good steak. It’s like beef butter.

“Best rib eye I’ve tried from a supermarket. The bar is set. I mean, surely like, this is a 10 out of 10 steak.

“Why would I pay more than double the price for another one? Yeah, that’s a 10 out of 10.”

Becca then put the pricier steak to the test – the Collection British Wagyu Ribeye Steak.

The content creator, who has amassed more than 600,000 followers on the hit social media platform, said: “Let’s move on to the £19 one,” and cut into the steak.

She continued: “This one does fall apart much more easily.”

But after taking a bite, she said: “Do you know what? I’m not actually that impressed. This is why we do this.

“The texture is lovely, it’s, like, so soft. It’s actually a little bit tasteless. It doesn’t have as much of a butteriness to it.”

Scoring the more expensive ribeye, Becca concluded: “I would give that a six and a half out of 10.”

So, according to Becca, the cheaper steak is the better option and easily came out on top in her taste test.

Long before it evolved into the retail powerhouse so known and loved today, Marks and Spencer got its start as a humble market stall, first established in Leeds back in 1884.

The retailer has built its reputation on quality goods which span multiple departments. Shoppers can snap up the newest fashion trends and peruse a vast selection of homeware, lingerie, beauty products and more.

Equally as popular are its beloved Food Halls, which stock both branded food and drink alongside M&S’s own-label products.
