Fans have just weeks to watch what has been described as one of the best films of all time, as the masterpiece will soon be removed from Netflix. The Green Mile has a high 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with fans describing the film as phenomenal and one of the greatest ever made. However, those subscribed to Netflix only have until July 18 to watch it.

The synopsis on Rotten Tomatoes reads: “Paul Edgecomb walked the mile with a variety of cons. He had never encountered someone like John Coffey, a massive black man convicted of brutally killing a pair of young sisters. Coffey had the size and strength to kill anyone, but not the demeanour.

“Beyond his simple, naive nature and a deathly fear of the dark, Coffey seemed to possess a prodigious, supernatural gift. Paul began to question whether Coffey was truly guilty of murdering the two girls.”

The film, based on the 1996 novel by Stephen King, was written and directed by Frank Darabont, and stars big names including Tom Hanks, David Morse, Bonnie Hunt and Michael Clarke Duncan.

Fans who have watched the film say it’s a must-watch and despite being released in 1999, the film still pulls on the heartstrings of fans today, with many sharing that they have rewatched it multiple times.

One person said: “One of the greats that I love to come back to every couple of years. Much respect to the outstanding acting by all. Michael Duncan is phenomenal! This is Nov 2025 and I just finished my 3rd rewatch. I’ll be back in a couple of years for #4.”

Another wrote: “One of the most phenomenal films ever made. Touching and heartfelt to the core. Duncan and Hanks A+! There are not many movies this long that are this incredible.”

A third said: “A rare 5 star for me. The movie is a masterpiece in story telling. Wonderful cast- wonderful acting. Really interesting scenes all wrapped together in a paranormal aura.

“I loved it- I loved it when I saw it decades ago- and loved it in 2025. It’s a must have for any collection. It’s also easily the best King adaptation ever.

Other fans have said that it was “one of the best film of all time” and “a cinematic landmark”.

The Green Mile is available on Netflix with July 18 being the last day to watch.
