Daniel Craig’s James Bond co-star gave him bloody injury in ‘overwhelming’ clash | Films | Entertainment
Back in 1999, Daniel Craig starred in a World War 1 film called The Trench, as an officer leading a group of British Tommies in the 48 hours prior to the Battle of the Somme. The bloody affair resulted in an estimated one million casualties and over 300,000 fatalities. Speaking of bloody affairs, Whishaw recently confessed to Empire that he accidentally injured his future Bond co-star despite having been warned by him to be extra careful. Whishaw recalled: “This was a very overwhelming experience. I was 16. I think I turned 17 during the shoot.”
Whishaw continued: “I had a scene where I had to run very quickly down the trench, and then turn a corner, and slightly bump into Daniel Craig’s character. And Daniel said, ‘Oh, be careful, because these trenches are very tight, and that helmet’s sharp, so just watch it.’ And I wasn’t careful, and I legged it round, and lost my footing, and slammed into Daniel, and my very sharp helmet cut his nose open. It’s such a teenage thing to do, because you’re so out of sync with your own body and the world. I’m touched by my own ineptness, looking back.
Aside from the future Bond stars, The Trench also featured pre-fame Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy in his first big screen role.
