‘Powerful masterpiece’ with Peaky Blinders icon leaving Netflix soon | Films | Entertainment

Netflix subscribers who have already been captivated by Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man have only a matter of days remaining to catch an electrifying sports drama fronted by one of the series’ most prominent stars.

Tom Hardy, who played cockney crime lord Alfie Solomons in the beloved BBC drama, takes the lead as US Marine and mixed martial artist Thomas “Tommy” Riordan Conlon in the critically lauded 2011 film Warrior.

Upon returning to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tommy agrees to be coached by his father, Paddy (played by Nick Nolte), a former boxing star and recovering alcoholic, in preparation for the Sparta tournament, where a $5 million (£3.75m) prize awaits the victor.

Tommy soon learns that his estranged brother, Brendan (Joel Edgerton), has likewise entered the competition, and the turbulent history underpinning their bitter rivalry is slowly revealed as both men endure the battle of their lives inside the ring.

Also featuring Frank Grillo (Peacemaker) and Jennifer Morrison (The Night Agent), alongside several genuine MMA fighters, Warrior is essential viewing for Netflix subscribers before its removal from the streaming platform after Tuesday, 14th April.

An impressive 84 percent of critics awarded the film a positive review, according to Rotten Tomatoes, while it garnered an outstanding 92 percent score from 50,000 user ratings. One IMDb user gushed: “All I can say is WOW! Great film. Great performances. The characters are deep and believable and the story will probably have you leaving the theatre in tears.”

They went on to make a bold declaration: “I know a lot of people won’t agree with me on this and I can understand, but Warrior has bumped Rocky out of my top 5 favourite movies of all time. IMHO (which some of you will consider worthless) I think it’s that good.”

Another viewer described it as “fantastic”, adding: “From start to finish, this movie will have you hooked. There is no weak spot in this movie. The acting is amazing. The story is great. The music is catchy. You will get emotionally invested throughout this story.

“This movie will make you FEEL something. This movie will ENTERTAIN you.

“This film has great drama, action, and story. I walked out of the movie being so impressed, and in shock how this hadn’t gotten more attention or done better at the box office.”

A final viewer labelled Warrior “a powerful masterpiece about desperate men”.

“Warrior gives you so much more than just half-naked men beating the c*** out of each other in a pointless martial art,” they continued. “It’s about passion, revenge and reconciliation.

“These elements are conveyed by [director Gavin O’Connor] and the cast in such an incredibly authentic and profound way that you almost can’t believe that the declared genre of this film is ‘sports movie’. Rather, it is a breathtaking roller coaster of emotions with a lot of heart with an admittedly slightly exaggerated ending.”
