Travel expenses are notorious for spiralling rapidly, particularly when shopping or dining at airports. With vendors operating within a captive market environment and facing minimal competition, prices can soar considerably higher than on the high street — even at familiar chain establishments.

Despite this widely-acknowledged reality, the final bill can still come as quite a shock. This was precisely the experience of one woman who treated herself to a coffee whilst departing from Sydney Airport.

In the clip, the Life Uncut co-host delivered a sarcastically-toned commentary about her daily budget, which swiftly accumulated more than one million views within just a matter of days.

“Super exciting, I’m going away for a long weekend in Australia, so let me show you how I spend $10 (£5.30) in a day,” she said at the start of the video, which saw her already at Sydney Airport, holding up two $5 bills.

The footage then cut to Brittany clutching a takeaway coffee whilst revealing the eye-watering receipt, which totalled $10.04 for a cappuccino with soy milk and honey, which had cost an extra $1 each, along with the $7.80 (£4.13) coffee.

A card transaction fee or a weekend surcharge of 14 cents pushed the final price over the $10 mark.

“The end,” Brittany then said before ending the video. She subsequently quipped in the post’s caption that budgetary restraint might be necessary, writing: “Looks like I’m going to have to cut back on the honey.”

She proceeded to ask her 731,000 followers what represents the highest amount they’ve ever spent on a cup of coffee.

“What the actual?!?!” one commenter wrote, evidently bewildered by the extortionate cost. Another questioned: “Did it at least taste good?”.

Another viewer suggested that airport lounge memberships could prove more economical than purchasing refreshments in the main terminal zones.

Meanwhile, other commenters revealed that this price was the typical pricing for takeaway coffee in various locations around the world, proceeding to disclose their usual spending habits.

Another individual disclosed the sum they’d spent in Britain, sharing: “I paid £9 for an iced latte with vanilla syrup in London, so equivalent to $18.

“32AED (£6.50) which is about $12AUD for coffee here in the UAE pretty standard,” someone else shared, whilst another viewer claimed to have paid $15 USD (£11.19) for a Starbucks cappuccino in the U.S. that “wasn’t even fully filled”.

Safe to say she’ll be checking the prices before purchasing another coffee going forward.
