A popular farm shop at Tebay Services on the M6, in Cumbria, has announced partial closures throughout February as the company makes updates to the shop. Tebay Services is a favourite among drivers, who will sadly see the Westmorland Farmshop and Kitchen “closing briefly” this month, including February 23, February 24 and February 25.

The shop and kitchen at the Tebay Services could be closing for longer as a four-year motorway closure project is being considered. National Highways has said that closing Junction 38 of the M6 is necessary to allow the replacement of eight bridges. However, Tim Farron, the Liberal Democrats MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, said the closure “could be the killing of many shops”.

“This extent of disruption will be huge. There’s been absolutely zero consultation or thought about mitigation or any kind of reaching out.”

Tebay Southbound closures

  • Monday, February 23 (closes 5:30pm)
  • Tuesday, February 24 (closed all day)
  • Wednesday, February 25 (open from 7:15pm)

Tebay Services said: “If you are still passing by, our Filling Stations and Kitchen/Food Hall will remain open as usual. Head to our website for their opening hours. Thanks for bearing with us while we get everything set up properly. If we can re-open our Farmshops earlier, we will. Safe travels, and we’ll see you soon!”

Another company that runs a petrol station on the A37, SRT Petroleum, is set to enter liquidation in April. While the company will close down, the petrol station is expected to remain open.

The service station, located between Dorchester and Bristol, has a Greggs, Costa Express, Budgens and a 24-hour off-licence.

Daniel Harrison, from Bridgewood Financial Solutions, said: “I can confirm the company ceased trading in January this year following increases in rent and other costs, as well as a reduction in trade.

“The director is taking steps to realise the company’s remaining assets before taking it into voluntary liquidation. My firm Bridgewood are assisting with this and expect the company to enter liquidation in April.”
