6 life lessons that only people who grew up in the 60s and 70s learnt
According to psychologists, there are some things that people who were born in the 60s or 70s experienced as kids that made them more resilient than later generations. Research has found that people who grew up post-World War II are stronger, more independent, and better at problem-solving.
Growing up in the 60s and 70s encouraged creativity, adaptability, and mental strengths that other generations don’t possess. They also developed stronger coping skills to deal with stress and adapt to change. Experts at The Brae Clinic said: “This generation often displays emotional endurance uncommon in younger cohorts. With fewer digital distractions, they learned to rely on mental flexibility and practical thinking, which continues to help them navigate modern work environments and interpersonal relationships.”

2. Outdoor, unsupervised play
Many psychologists say that free playtime had significant resilience-building benefits, helping develop risk tolerance, independence, and confidence.
Psychologist Dr Saidi explained: “Without constant adult supervision, children developed risk tolerance, independence and problem-solving skills through their everyday activities, such as climbing trees and riding bikes.”
