Do you feel younger than your years, or older than you care to admit? Now you can find out your ‘real’ age with our quiz, which asks how you live your life and how youthful you feel—before revealing your true age.

It comes after new research found that four in ten Britons have lied about their age, with the average person claiming to be four years younger than they actually are. The survey of 2,000 adults revealed that 65 per cent have tried to turn back the clock, while 81 per cent have added years to appear more mature.

Some 16 per cent of those who have lied about their age have kept up the pretence for more than six months, while 19 per cent have given a different age on their birthday rather than reveal the truth. Meanwhile, 17 per cent have simply gone along with an age someone else guessed.

In fact, 26 per cent like to keep their age a mystery, and more than half (52 per cent) believe others think they are younger than they really are.

A spokesperson from Funky Pigeon, which commissioned the research, said: “Whether it’s dialling back the clock or pushing it forward to sneak past a velvet rope, boost their confidence, or simply fit in with friends.

“It seems age really is just a number – at least the one you’re willing to admit to.”

The study also found that people are most likely to be fooled about someone’s age when meeting on dating apps, at parties, or while travelling.

Friends (11 per cent), colleagues (10 per cent), and social media followers (eight per cent) have also been on the receiving end of such white lies.

A spokesperson from Funky Pigeon, said: “Whatever your age – or what you report it to be, what truly matters is making the most of every year.

“Birthdays are the one day a year that can be a celebration about you – so naturally when it’s someone else’s it’s always nice to make a fuss. And making that little bit of extra effort – whether you specify the age or not – can make all the difference.”
