Woman with ‘most misunderstood dog breed’ shares reality
A dog owner named Lily has praised her dog’s sweet reaction to seeing her after a surgery, which has made her call him ‘the most misunderstood’ dog breed.
Since February 1 last year, it has been a criminal offence to own an American XL bully dog in England and Wales without a certificate, proving their dog had been neutered. The ban came after a significant rise in reported attacks and fatalities linked to the breed. However, people have expressed their disapproval of the ban, with many saying it’s not a fair representation of the breed.
One of these people is Lily, who has gained over 68,000 followers on Instagram account all about her dog, Doug. Together, they are on a mission to prove that American Bully dogs aren’t as bad as their reputation make them out to be, and that people shouldn’t judge a dog for its breed.
In one video, dog owner Lily is seen getting ready for surgery by having her partner tie up her hospital gown on her back. The video then cuts to the next clip, where she’s seen laying in her bed as her partner and dog comes to see her for the first time after getting home from hospital.
“As first, we had [Doug] kept on a lead because he’s a 35kg dog and the risk was too high having him jump freely around me,” she explained.
Doug is seemingly excited, with his tail wagging as he sees his mum, but his body language is careful and confused as he sniffs around the room before coming to say hi to his mum by kissing her hand, with her partner carefully holding the lead to make sure Doug doesn’t do anything that might hurt her.
“Building up his trust to stay calm around me was something Dog Dad ensured was done correctly. However it didn’t take much as our Doug is a gentle giant,” she said on the next clip, where Doug is seen sitting quietly in the corridor as Dog Dad goes to hand her a cup of tea.
“He even came up without his collar and lead and knew he had to listen at all times,” she explained in another clip showing how Doug calmly walked out of the bedroom when Dog Dad called for him from the corridor.
As Doug is later seen laying on the bed, cuddling his mum, she wrote: “Dogs are amazing and they just know when their humans need that extra loving and healing.”
She wrote in the caption of the video: “One of the most misunderstood dog breeds of all time showing their true nature when it comes to loving their humans. Dogs are too pure for this world.”
People quickly took to the comment section of the video to praise Doug’s behaviour, with one person saying: “They make the best nurses!!”
“He is a perfect ambassador for his breed… so misunderstood,” a second person said, while a third added: “Wish the lawmakers had seen this before they passed the unfair laws. You are right They are highly misunderstood. He is a perfect boy. Gentle and full of empathy”.
