Sombr brought his pop-rock act to the American Music Awards stage. The musician made his debut at the show with a performance of “Homewrecker,” which is nominated for Song of the Summer at this year’s awards ceremony.

The singer appeared after winning Best Rock/Alternative Song for “Back to Friends.” As he sang the aching chorus of “Homewrecker” for the AMAs, lighting struck in the background and a cascade of rain began to pour on the stage. Naturally, Sombr relished the moment by slicking back his hair and wiping his eyeliner to end the song with a flourish.

Sombr is one of the most nominated artists of the night with seven total nods. In addition to his Best Rock/Alternative Song win and Song of the Summer nod, the 20-year-old is up for New Artist of the Year, Breakthrough Rock/Alternative Artist, Song of the Year, and Breakthrough Album of the Year and Best Rock/Alternative Album for I Barely Know Her.

“Sombr performs with a distinct internal confidence and external charm that has been notably absent in the withering releases from many of his male contemporaries in pop,” Rolling Stone wrote in a review of I Barely Know Her.

Earlier this year, Sombr performed the album’s propulsive fourth single “12 to 12” during the Best New Artist medley at the 2026 Grammy Awards. He also made his debut at Coachella in April, running through a quickly-expanding catalog of hits with a special appearance from the Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan.

Sombr’s American Music Awards performance follows appearances at the Brit Awards, where he performed “Undressed” and “Back to Friends,” and the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, where he performed “12 to 12” and “Back to Friends.”

“I am someone who would have been happy doing anything creative as a job, as long as I could get by,” Sombr recently told Nylon. “There was no fucking possibility that I could be a successful artist. You are told it’s one in a million. It truly is.”
