Sombr welcomed special guests Laufey and Cigarettes After Sex to the stage in Los Angeles during the latest stop on his Late Nights & Young Romance Tour.

Laufey joined for a duet of “Careless Whisper,” the 1984 classic from George Michael. Earlier this year, the artists teamed up for some tongue-in-cheek promotional videos when their albums — Laufey’s A Matter of Time and Sombr’s I Barely Know Her — were released on the same day. At the end of their performance, Sombr presented her with a bouquet of flowers.

Cigarettes After Sex’s Greg Gonzalez appeared to perform “Apocalypse,” a single from their 2017 self-titled debut. Sombr previously praised the band in a social media post reflecting on the relationship that his breakthrough single, “Back to Friends,” is about. “Our favorite band to listen to commented on the song I wrote about her,” he wrote on TikTok earlier this year. “I have officially won the breakup.”

Laufey and Cigarettes After Sex are the latest guests on a growing list of special appearances on Sombr’s tour. In Portland, Foster the People’s Mark Foster surprised the audience with “Pumped Up Kicks,” and Sam Smith performed “I’m Not the Only One” with the singer in New York in October.

This weekend, Sombr will make his musical guest debut on Saturday Night Live with an episode hosted by Nikki Glaser. The Late Nights & Young Romance Tour also continues with week with two nights in Brooklyn to close out the North American leg of the trek before resuming in New Zealand and Australia next month.

Outside of his guest-filled live shows, Sombr has kept a low profile after facing extensive criticism of his performance style and artistic persona online. A viral TikTok reviewing his show as being filled with teenage girls took flight on the app, which led to the singer issuing a response video that only seemed to add fuel to the fire.

“I thought I was chronically online, but it’s just come to my attention that there’s a TikTok drama going around because a 25-year-old attended my concert and was basically complaining that there were too many tweens there, I was making too many brain-rot jokes, and she just thought it was a cringe concert,” Sombr said. “I make jokes for five minutes of the concert and the rest is music. Live a little.”
