In 1971, Ringo Starr called for peace and unity on his single “It Don’t Come Easy.” The record made its way onto the setlist for his performances at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium in January, hosted in support of the American Red Cross and Los Angeles residents impacted by the recent wildfires. “Please, remember peace is how we make it,” Starr sings in the trailer for Ringo & Friends at the Ryman, the two-hour CBS special airing Monday, March 10.

“It is always a thrill to play the Ryman and this time we are going country!” Starr shared in a statement. “T Bone [Burnett, producer] has put together a great show. It was two nights of peace, love and country music.”

Starr was joined by a host of country figures for the two-night event. He took the stage with Sheryl Crow, Rodney Crowell, Mickey Guyton, Emmylou Harris, Sarah Jarosz, Jamey Johnson, Brenda Lee, Larkin Poe, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, the War and Treaty, and Jack White. Artists also took the stage solo, with White covering “Don’t Pass Me By” and Tuttle covering “Octopus’s Garden.”

“There is not a single person in the world who has generated more goodwill than Ringo Starr, and I write this without hyperbole,” Burnett shared. “On Jan. 14 and 15, an extraordinary group of artists came together to help demonstrate that at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. Ringo has been singing and playing country music since before he joined The Beatles, and many, if not most, of his recordings with that band were country songs.”

Burnett co-produced Starr’s latest album, Look Up, with Daniel Tashian. Released in January, it features collaborations with many of the artists on the CBS special, including Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, and Larkin Poe, as well as Alison Krauss.
