The latest instalment in the popular Knives Out series is set to have a brief stint in cinemas before making its debut on Netflix.

Eager fans are already looking forward to the return of Daniel Craig‘s much-loved detective character, Benoit Blanc. The character is poised to return for what is being touted as his most perilous case yet.

Following the success of Knives Out in 2019, Netflix clinched a deal with Star Wars: The Last Jedi writer and director Rian Johnson for the release of upcoming sequels.

This led to Glass Onion being exclusively released on the streaming giant’s platform in 2022, soon to be followed by Wake Up Dead Man.

But what is the new chapter about? Who makes up the star-studded cast? And when will the film be available for streaming on Netflix? Here’s everything you need to know.

What is the plot of Wake Up Dead Man?

According to the film’s synopsis, Wake Up Dead Man will follow a young priest named Jud Duplenticy who is sent to assist the charismatic firebrand Monsignor Jefferson Wicks. However, it quickly becomes apparent that all is not as it seems within the church, reports the Mirror.

Wicks’s humble but devoted congregation includes the devout church lady Martha Delacroix, cautious groundskeeper Samson Holt, high-strung lawyer Vera Draven, Esq, ambitious politician Cy Draven, town doctor Nat Sharp, best-selling author Lee Ross, and concert cellist Simone Vivane.

After a sudden and seemingly impossible murder sends shockwaves through the town, the absence of an obvious suspect leads local police chief Geraldine Scott to team up with famed detective Benoit Blanc to solve a mystery that defies all reason.

Who stars in Wake Up Dead Man?

Daniel Craig reprises his role as Benoit Blanc, making him the only actor to appear in all Knives Out films. As with the previous two instalments, he is supported by a star-studded cast.

The Crown and Challengers actor takes on the role of Father Jud Duplenticy, while Glenn Close stars as Martha Delacroix. Marvel’s Josh Brolin will portray Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, and Family Guy and Black Swan actress Mila Kunis plays Geraldine Scott.

Jeremy Renner, who was the butt of a joke about a hot sauce brand in the last film, will play Dr. Nat Sharp in this new venture. Scandal’s Kerry Washington will portray Vera Draven.

British actor Andrew Scott, known for his roles in Ripley and Fleabag, plays Lee Ross. Cailee Spaeny will feature as Simone Vivane and Peaky Blinders’ Daryl McCormack is Cy Draven. Meanwhile, Thomas Haden Church, famous for his role as Sandman in Spider-Man 3, plays Samson Holt.

When is Wake Up Dead Man coming to Netflix?

Wake Up Dead Man, like several other high-profile Netflix releases this year, will have a limited cinema run upon its initial release.

This follows the pattern set by Train Dreams, Ballad of a Small Player and A House of Dynamite.

The positive news for subscribers is that they won’t have to wait long to stream it from the comfort of their homes. It will be available just in time for Christmas, with streaming starting from 12 December.

Wake Up Dead Man is in limited UK cinemas from November 26 and streaming on Netflix from December 12.
