Vinted has issued guidance to all its users telling them to be vigilant to potential scammers. The popular app is used to sell items people no longer want or need.

People have been using the site to make some extra cash or to bag a bargain, as Vinted has become known for finding secondhand gems. But in an email to all users of the selling site, Vinted warned about would-be scammers who want to exploit people and urged users to pay for items only through Vinted and never to share payment details. They said: “Your safety matters to us. To help you stay a step ahead of scammers, here’s what to know…”

They then went on to detail the ways to stay safe when shopping or selling on Vinted. Telling people to “stay on Vinted”, they said: “We never ask you to share personal details or send payments via direct messages, and we won’t rush you to act fast.”

They also urged people to check the sender if they ever receive an email from Vinted: “Official Vinted emails only come from @vinted addresses. If something looks off, don’t respond or click links.”

They also urged people to complete their personal information by adding a phone number to their accounts so that they can send text messages to check on any possible suspicious logins.

Ensure our latest lifestyle and travel headlines always appear at the top of your Google Search by making us a Preferred Source. Click here to activate or add us as Preferred Source in your Google search settings.

They also asked people to “take action” should they see or experience anything suspicious. You can do this with the “report and block” function inside the app and you can alert Vinted to any potential scam emails by forwarding them to phising@vinted.com.
