A vet has revealed the five most “overused” dog names he comes across in his line of work, and has said owners “need to be more creative”.

Millions of people across the globe are proud dog owners, with the much-loved animal having earned an enduring reputation as “man’s best friend” – yet it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted. Owning a dog is a serious commitment that can last around 10-15 years, depending on the animal’s lifespan.

While dogs are famously loyal and affectionate, bringing their owners immeasurable joy, they can also be hard work – requiring constant care, attention and dedication from those who own them.

Before taking the plunge into dog ownership, many people carefully weigh up the pros and cons, with a great number turning to social media in search of expert and firsthand advice and guidance.

There’s no shortage of both novices and professionals eager to share their opinions and offer their insight to the wider public online.

Popular veterinarian Dr Amir Anwary has become a firm favourite on social media, garnering hundreds of thousands of followers and millions of likes on TikTok through his regular video uploads, in which he shares his expertise and recommendations.

Alongside his informative content, he also posts light-hearted clips of himself dancing while recounting amusing anecdotes from his experiences with animals and their owners.

In a recent light-hearted clip, the vet unveiled a list of what he considers to be the “most overused dog names” he comes across in his work. Choosing a name for a pet can be quite a challenge, with certain names proving particularly popular and, according to the vet, the five most overused options are:

In text overlaid on footage of him dancing, Dr Anwary wrote: “The five most overused dog names I hear as a vet. You need to be more creative!”

In the caption accompanying his video, he added: “Why is Bella so popular?? Can someone explain this???”

In the comments section, fellow TikTok users were eager to share their opinions. One person said: “Daisy [and] Max are also overused”.

Another said: “I knew Bella was gonna be on here.”

A third confessed: “I have a dog named Bella, in my defense she came with the name and already knew it.”

A fourth said: “I feel personally attacked, my dog’s name is Roxy”.

Someone else said: “I have a Roxy lol”.

One person commented: “I have a Luna, her official registration is Princess Luna-Bell Lebeau though.”

Another said: “Every dog I meet seems to be called Bella, my 2 labs have none of these common names though”.

And another shared: “In England, every boy dog I meet seems to be called Alfie or Ted, and the girls are Bella, Bonnie or Luna. I’m actually shocked when I come across a different name.”

One pet owner shared: “I have a Cooper and Bella but the meaning and how they got their names is what makes them creative and different.”

Dr Anwary replied: “I mean it would have to be those are very common names!”

However, another user added: “Let people name their dogs what they want them to be named”.
