An underrated but “action-packed” thriller written by Quentin Tarantino is streaming now on Amazon Prime. From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) is a surreal, genre-bending, horror/action film that focuses on two criminal brothers (played by George Clooney and Tarantino) who kidnap a family as they look to keep out of the authorities’ clutches and escape to Mexico.
But during their journey, they find themselves trapped in a remote desert saloon, and discover that it harbours a horrifying supernatural secret. Reservoir Dogs star Harvey Keitel, Salma Hayek and Juliette Lewis also star. It was directed by Robert Rodriguez. Tarantino wrote the screenplay from a story and concept by Robert Kurtzman.

Reviews for the film were mixed, with many taking issue with its extreme violence, though it’s gone to become something of a cult classic.
One fan writing on IMDb said it “stands as one of the most underrated films of the 90’s”.
Another wrote: “Stylish, violent and vivacious it’s a genre defining blast filled with over the top antics, cheesy yet awesome gore effects, engaging dialogue, and a splendid cast to create the ultimate horror action-comedy hybrid masterpiece for the ages.”
A third, writing back in 2000 said: “From Dusk Till Dawn is one bloody action extravaganza that thrills you one minute and grosses you out the next. Run, don’t walk and rent this film. It’s amazing.”
A fourth called it an “action-packed extravaganza”, adding: This movie is great in a lot of ways. First, the script is written brilliant, it is darkly humorous. A lot of the lines had be laughing very hard.

“The acting is good from all the cast and the special effects are pretty disgusting.”
A fifth said: “For once, this is a film which doesn’t give the viewer all the answers beforehand. You are in the same boat as the characters and you don’t know what’s in store for them.
“If you hadn’t seen this before, without any knowledge of the movie, you’d be in for a huge surprise as I was.”
“An 8/10 for its script (thanks to Tarantino) and the actors who, while not trying too hard, make this an enjoyable horror flick with a difference.”
The film has an 18 certificate and known for its gratuitous violence, horror, nudity and profanity – so viewer discretion is very much advised.
From Dusk Till Dawn was added to Amazon Prime in the UK on Monday, February 23. It’s also available to stream, rent, or buy on other platforms.
