A “masterpiece” sci-fi movie starring Tom Cruise is streaming for free in the UK. Minority Report (2002) is set a dystopian vision of the USA in 2054 where police use gifted individuals called “precogs” to predict crimes before they happen – and apprehend criminals before they’ve done anything wrong.

Cruise plays John Anderton, the head of the precrime unit, who is convinced of its importance after suffering a devastating tragedy. That is until the precogs predict he will soon kill a man he’s never met. Anderton flees, convinced he’s been framed. The star-studded cast also includes Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton, and Max von Sydow.

It was directed by Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Scott Frank and Jon Cohen. The story was based on a 1956 short story by sci-fi icon Philip K. Dick.

One fan who praised the film on IMDb last year wrote: “Spielberg delivers yet another masterpiece. I adore this movie. Everything about it works for me. The mood of the movie, the acting, the cast, the story.

“I didn’t realise this movie is so underrated to the point where some people never heard of it but perhaps it is over 20 years old so perhaps the younger generation misses out on it.

“And that’s a big shame because this movie has aged so well.”

Another added: “This film is truly exciting, exactly how a movie should look and feel. Highly recommended to watch, whether it’s your first time or the hundredth, especially after a real break from it.

“Considering that most new films aren’t worth a dime, this one is a perfect reminder of how a good movie is supposed to be.”
