According to The Disinsider, Oscar-nominated Elvis and Dune star Austin Butler is being circled to join the franchise.

The scooper wrote: “What is Disney’ project with Austin Butler you told last week? Hercules? I have heard for the last couple of years that Disney has wanted to work with Butler for quite some time and while Hercules was on the table, I heard that Disney wants him from Pirates of the Caribbean. Whether or not that happens is a completely different story.”

To add to this, another respected leaker MyTimeToShineHello, claims Disney wants Transformers and Marvel star Hailee Steinfeld in the new Pirates blockbuster.

There have also been previous rumours that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will be set in Haiti with a female Haitian lead possibly played by The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri.

MyTimeToShineHello reported at the time: “Also they do want Johnny Depp to come back just not as the lead.”

Some fans are dead against this, but they have to remember that Jack Sparrow was a supporting character to Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann in the first Pirates movie, so it could still work well if Depp came back on board.
