Next year’s Avengers Doomsday has cast 2000s X-Men stars from Sir Patrick Stewart to Sir Ian McKellen as a fond farewell to the originals. But Marvel Studios is already looking ahead to their replacements.

Thunderbolts/The New Avengers director Jake Schreier is set to direct the X-Men reboot, which will kick off the MCU’s Mutant Saga after 2027’s Avengers Secret Wars concludes the lacklustre Multiverse Saga.

Now, a couple of reliable scoopers have shared what they’re hearing from sources, including the two multi-Oscar-winning actors being eyed for the new Magneto.

MyTimeToShineHello posted on X: “So, about the X-Men — here’s what’s happening: no new cast will be introduced in the upcoming Avengers films, because the focus is on giving closure to the original characters. Casting hasn’t started yet because director Jake Schreier hasn’t officially signed on. That’s why Sadie Sink isn’t playing Jean Grey. That said, there are three roles Kevin Feige has specific actors (or at least types) in mind for: Xavier, Magneto, and Storm. The names he’s considering feel a bit too big to actually land, but you’ll see — I’ll mention them soon. Aside from those three, I haven’t heard of any other actors being considered yet.” That was until they mentioned one…

They shared: “Daniel Day-Lewis is being eyed to play Magneto in the MCU.” The three-time Academy Award winner may be out of retirement this year to star in his son Ronan’s debut film Anemone, but it seems unlikely he would take up a franchise role.

Nevertheless, scooper Jeff Sneider says he’s heard two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington is high on the list to play the X-Men character. However, given that Erik is a Holocaust survivor, this may be considered controversial casting.
